Penthos was established by a concerned group of mental health professionals with expertise in couple and family psychotherapy, who saw the suffering of vulnerable families and the risks that they face, in the absence of appropriately timed, accessible, evidence based therapeutic services.

Our Board - To help deliver its charitable aims, Penthos has brought together Board members who, individually and collectively, bring exceptional organisational, financial, governance, program management, research and clinical skills - and share a commitment to enabling equality of opportunity to all Australians.

Our Service Providers - Penthos service providers are all qualified mental health professionals, who have been trained in the core professions of Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry and Clinical Social Work and who have had additional training and experience in specialist couples and family psychotherapy.

The clinical services of Penthos is provided by these experienced psychotherapists, who receive ongoing training and supervision in the Penthos model.

Evaluation of the Penthos Intervention Pilot Study will be provided by Professor Dianna Kenny.

Vale The Hon Ann Symonds AM

It is with great sadness that Penthos ended the year with the passing of our friend and Board member, Ann Symonds.

Ann, the first female Deputy Mayor of Waverley and a NSW Parliamentarian from 1982 to 1998, was enthusiastic in encouraging the establishment of Penthos.

Throughout her life she supported those in need.  She worked for drug reform, with the establishment of safe injecting rooms, assistance of women escaping domestic violence and for care of the children of those incarcerated; these were just a few of the many causes which have benefited from Ann’s tireless fight for social justice and the rights of the marginalised.  Ann was known as “the champion of the untidy and inarticulate”.

Penthos, along with the Politics of Social Change Foundation and The Miranda Project, all instigated in the last 12 months of her life and while in ill health, are organisations that will carry on her unswerving dedication to supporting those in need.
