ONE IN FIVE PARENTS SUFFER FROM PROLONGED GRIEF DUE TO THE LOSS OF A CHILD

Penthos provides grieving parents a fully donor-funded, specialist therapy program for couples suffering unresolved grief following the loss of a child.

Penthos provides a free tertiary mental health service delivered by specially trained health professionals (psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social workers, and couple therapists). Couples can attend therapy face-to-face or via video link depending on their location or circumstances.

Our services are offered Australia-wide.

IMPACT OF DEATH ON A COUPLE

Losing a child is one of life’s most painful experiences. Parents respond to this painful loss and subsequent grief in different ways. Grief ebbs and flows as a process that is unique for each parent and couple. Grief affects our thoughts, feelings, behaviour and physical functioning. Although painful, the intense feelings associated with grief often begin to recede but for some their grief remains unresolved and sometimes worsens

WHAT COUPLES SAY ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

Many couples have found the program very helpful in dealing with their painful loss. One referrer noted that a couple to whom they recommended the program reported that the program saved their relationship in the way that it helped them understand and process their painful grief together.
