Penthos is a not-for-profit organisation which provides evidence-based, specialist therapy to couples after the loss of a child.
Penthos provides these services in order to promote a secure, supportive emotional environment for couples and families suffering loss. The therapy Penthos provides is based on contemporary psychodynamic understandings of how the mind functions and how individuals relate to one another.
In addition, Penthos provides education, training, supervision and consultation to health professionals, organisations and specialist medical units, about the impact of loss on couples and families.
Through the use of communication technology Penthos has extended access to this valuable mental health resource to regional and rural areas.
We will consult with relevant agencies to ensure equity of access and to encourage the maximum impact of such programs, especially for disadvantaged groups, including low income and Aboriginal Australians. It will aim to consult with Aboriginal Australians to facilitate their access to the Penthos program.
